I-VOL Terms and Conditions for Volunteers
1. Introduction
I-VOL is the national searchable database of volunteering opportunities in Ireland. The system is centrally operated and managed by Volunteer Ireland (VI) in collaboration with the national network of Volunteer Centres (VCs).
These Terms and Conditions apply to all individuals (“You” / “Your”) who register on I-VOL or use the platform to search for and apply to volunteering opportunities.
By using I-VOL, you agree to be bound by these Terms and Conditions and by the Privacy Notice referred to below. If you do not agree, you should not use the I-VOL service.
We reserve the right to amend these Terms and Conditions at any time. The latest version will always be available on www.i-vol.ie
2. Use of I-VOL
I-VOL allows individuals to:
- Create a volunteer profile.
- Search for volunteering opportunities.
- Register interest in roles advertised by volunteer involving organisations.
When using I-VOL, you must:
- Provide accurate and up to date information.
- Keep your profile up to date or delete your information, as needed. For example, you change your address, email or phone number.
- Ensure you have obtained verified parental/guardian consent to use I-VOL if you are U-18.
- Comply with these Terms and Conditions and any relevant laws.
We reserve the right to remove or suspend your profile or access to I-VOL at our sole discretion if you breach these Terms and Conditions.
3. Data Protection and Privacy
Volunteer Ireland and the Volunteer Centres function as independent data controllers for personal data collected through the I-VOL registration form.
As a registered volunteer, you will both provide and share personal data through I-VOL, and the following applies:
1. When you register or update your I-VOL profile, you are responsible for ensuring that any personal information you provide is accurate and kept up to date.
2. When you apply for a volunteering opportunity, your information is shared with the organisation offering that role so they can contact you directly and progress your application. That organisation then becomes an independent data controller for your information and must manage it in line with data-protection law, including the GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018.
For further information on how your personal data is collected, managed, and protected, please see the I-VOL Volunteer Privacy Notice at www.i-vol.ie/privacy-notice-for-volunteers.
4. Applying for a Volunteering Opportunity
Both organisations and volunteers have responsibilities when using I-VOL. Acceptance of registration and posting an opportunity does not imply endorsement by Volunteer Ireland or a Volunteer Centre.
Organisations posting volunteering opportunities on I-VOL are responsible for ensuring that:
- All information posted is true, accurate, and lawful.
- Volunteer roles advertised are genuine, voluntary, and provide a community benefit.
- Listings comply with applicable laws and these Terms and Conditions.
- Roles listed do not replace paid work.
You are responsible for verifying the accuracy of information and the bona fides of any organisation before applying.
We strongly recommend that you exercise the same caution as you would applying for any role, including verifying details directly with the organisation where appropriate.
We encourage you to contact your local Volunteer Centre if you would like support, guidance, or wish to share feedback about your volunteering experience.
5. Registering your interest
When you apply for a volunteering opportunity:
- Your contact details and relevant skills information will be shared with the organisation hosting the opportunity.
- The organisation will become an independent data controller for this information and is responsible for how it uses and stores it.
- The organisation may contact you directly.
- Organisations may require Garda Vetting for roles involving children or vulnerable persons.
Volunteer Ireland and Volunteer Centres function as platform facilitators and are not responsible for how organisations process your data once it has been shared.
6. Acceptable Use
You must not:
- Provide false or misleading information.
- Post or transmit unlawful, defamatory, discriminatory, obscene, harassing, or otherwise inappropriate content.
- Infringe the rights of any third party (e.g., IP, privacy, confidentiality).
- Misuse the platform by introducing malicious software or attempting unauthorised access.
We reserve the right to monitor activity on I-VOL and remove content, profiles, or applications at any time and without notice where necessary to protect users or comply with legal obligations.
7. Intellectual Property
All I-VOL content is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, distribute, modify, or use I-VOL content for commercial purposes without prior written permission from Volunteer Ireland.
8. External Links
I-VOL may contain links to third-party websites. We are not responsible for the content or practices of these sites and accept no liability for any loss or damage arising from their use.
9. Disclaimers and Liability
I-VOL and its content are provided “as is” without warranties of any kind.
We do not warrant that I-VOL will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure, or that the information provided is accurate or complete. Your use of I-VOL is at your own risk.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Volunteer Ireland, Volunteer Centres, and their officers, employees, and agents disclaim all liability for any direct, indirect, special, incidental, or consequential loss arising from your use of, or inability to use, I-VOL.
10. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify and hold harmless Volunteer Ireland, Volunteer Centres, their officers, employees, and agents from any claims, damages, or expenses arising out of your use of I-VOL in breach of these Terms and Conditions.
11. Governing Law
These Terms and Conditions are governed by Irish law. Any disputes will be subject to the exclusive authority of the Irish courts.
